Support Rooted in Alberta Experience

Estate planning is personal. People come to this page looking for direction, clarity, and someone they can trust.

Our lawyers have worked with Edmonton families for years, helping them put the right plans in place and manage estates with confidence.

As an Alberta firm, we understand the legal landscape and the emotional weight that often comes with these decisions.

Our Focus Is Simple
Steady Guidance, Clear Communication, And A Caring Approach That Makes The Process Easier For You And The People You Care About.

Our Services

Estate Planning for Individuals and Families

We help you choose the right documents for your situation and explain each step so you feel comfortable and informed.

Estate Planning for Business Owners

Many estates involve business interests. This is where clients often feel the most pressure, and where JJM’s general practice background truly matters. Estate law often touches corporate, employment, real estate, and contract issues. Our team handles all of these areas in house, which means nothing slips through the cracks.

We assist business owners with:

Succession planning

Winding down a business

Employment releases

Corporate transitions connected to an estate

Planning to protect both family and company interests

This level of support gives families and business owners a clear path forward without piecing together advice from multiple firms.

Support When a Loved One Has Passed

Estate work during a loss is emotional. People may feel unsure, pressured, or overwhelmed by the steps involved. Our probate lawyers help Edmonton families move through the process with care and clear direction.

We assist with:

Probate applications

Estate administration services

Communication with beneficiaries

Coordinating financial institutions

Managing property or business matters connected to an estate

One of the most important roles we play is easing the burden on executors. Beneficiaries often have questions, concerns, or strong emotions. Instead of leaving the executor to handle those conversations, we step in.

We explain what is happening, why it is happening, and what comes next. This reduces tension, prevents confusion, and protects relationships during an already difficult time.

Calm, Clear Support During Estate Conflicts

Estate disputes can strain families. People may feel hurt, frustrated, or unsure of their rights. Our approach focuses on clarity, fairness, and steady guidance that keeps the situation from escalating.

We help with:

Will disputes and litigation

Concerns about capacity

Executor disputes

Uneven distributions

Claims involving business or property assets

Litigation is used only when needed. Where possible, we work to resolve issues early so families can move forward with less conflict.

Common Questions

How do I make a legal will in Alberta?

A will must follow Alberta’s legal requirements for validity, including proper witnesses. Our will lawyers prepare documents that reflect your decisions clearly and reduce the risk of conflict later.

Alberta law decides how your estate is divided. A will lets you choose who manages your estate and who receives your assets.

Do I need a lawyer for probate?

Probate is required in certain cases. It can involve time-sensitive steps, banking requirements, and legal filings. We help executors move through each step properly.

It depends on the size of the estate, the number of beneficiaries, and whether probate is needed. We set expectations early so you know what to expect.
